Removal of pacemaker leads in extracorporeal circulation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Results Overall, 6 leads were removed from 4 patients. The commonest indication for extraction was infection (endocarditis) in three patients (75 %). The other patient was operated because of massive thrombus on the leads. Removal was complete and safe for all the patients. All the patients received epicardial lead with pacemaker pocket located in the rectus abdominis muscle. The postoperative period was free of complications in all the patients.

[Successful removal of infected pacemaker leads under extracorporeal circulation in three cases].
We report three cases suffering from endocarditis caused by pacemaker lead infection. Because of the long interval beginning from implantation to surgical removal and the large vegetations on the leads, the entire pacemaker system was removed under extracorporeal circulation (ECC). Postoperative courses were uneventful and none of these patients have shown recurrent infection to date. The total...
متن کاملTracheal Chondrosarcoma Excised With Extracorporeal Circulation
Introduction: Tracheal chondrosarcoma (TCS) is a rare malignancy, with only 19 cases described in the literature to date. Case presentation: Herein, we presented the third-largest TCS with such an airway compromise that neither orotracheal intubation nor jet ventilation or even tracheostomy was possible. So, extracorporeal circulation was needed to excise the tumor in a one-stage procedure. Th...
متن کاملThe Improvement of the Atrial Flutter Rhythm upon the Removal of the Infected Permanent Pacemaker Lead
Pacemaker infection has multiple risk factors. Its presentation is most often similar to infected endocarditis and the diagnosis is made through studying blood cultures. Transesophageal echocardiography can confirm the diagnosis. The most common microorganisms are staphylococcus speciesis. As a matter of fact, complete pacemaker removal appears to be the only definite treatment. We presented a ...
متن کاملCombined application of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and an artificial pacemaker in fulminant myocarditis in a child.
Fulminant myocarditis is severe and aggressive, but it is self-limited and usually has a favorable prognosis if the patients can survive the acute phase. When drug treatment is not effective, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation technology should be applied to support cardiopulmonary function. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation can simultaneously support function of the left ventricle, right ve...
متن کاملIs correction for metallic artefacts mandatory in cardiac SPECT/CT imaging in the presence of pacemaker and implantable cardioverter defibrillator leads?
Introduction: Metallic artifacts due to pacemaker/ implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) leads in CT images can produce artifactual uptake in cardiac SPECT/CT images. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of the metallic artifacts due to pacemaker and ICD leads on myocardial SPECT/CT imaging. Methods: The study included 9 patients wh...
